Jesse T. Torbert, M.D.
Dr. Torbert was born and raised near Rogersville, Tennessee until the age of 11 when he and his family moved to Waverly, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude from the Case Western Reserve School of Engineering in 1999. His academic honors included the Biomedical Engineering Faculty Award for Scholarship & Service. Dr. Torbert worked as a biomedical engineer at Medtronic in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was awarded a patent for his work in the field of cardiac surgery. He then returned to Case Western Reserve where he completed a Master's degree in applied human anatomy while attending medical school. He completed his internship and orthopaedic residency at the University of Pennsylvania. As a result of his research accomplishments, he received the Orthopaedic Clinician Scientist Development Program Award, which is awarded annually to residents in the United States who demonstrate the ability to be leaders in orthopaedic clinical research. Following residency, Dr. Torbert spent on year as an orthopaedic trauma fellow at the world-renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Here he took care of patients with the most severe injuries including pelvic and acetabular fractures, complex peri-articular fractures, mangled extremities, severe open fractures, severe post-traumatic deformities, non-unions, infections, and large bone loss requiring limb lengthening, as well as more common low-energy fractures. He joined University Orthopaedic Surgeons in August of 2011 and serves as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Dr. Torbert has a special interest in pelvic and acetabular fractures.
Outside of work, Dr. Torbert enjoys spending time with this fiancee', Leslie, who is a registered dietician and nurse. He enjoys traveling, mountain biking, and swimming. He is delighted to be living back in East Tennessee.
