G. Edward Jeffries, Jr., M.D.
Glenn Edward Jeffries, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Jeffries received a B.S. from the University of Tennessee in 1970. He attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis where he graduated in 1974. He performed a surgical internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and returned to Knoxville for an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville, which he completed in 1978. Dr. Jeffries has been in active practice of orthopedic surgery in Knoxville since 1978, initially in practice with Edwin Schaumburg, M.D., and then as part of University Orthopaedic Surgeons and finally as part of OrthoTennessee.
Dr. Jeffries is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Jeffries is Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. He is also a member of the North American Spine Society, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Orthopedic Rehabilitation Association, the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and the Knoxville Orthopedic Society. Dr. Jeffries is also a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, the Tennessee Orthopedic Society and the American Medical Association.
In addition to his interest in trauma, Dr. Jeffries specializes in the treatment of injuries, diseases and conditions of the spine. He is keenly interested in prevention of back injury as well as the proactive non-surgical management of problems of the spine. He has extensive experience in treatment of tumors, infections, injuries and arthritis of the spine as well as disc disease and instability.
Dr. Jeffries is also actively involved with the Amputee Coalition of America, a national non-profit amputee educational organization. He has assisted his wife, Mary Novotny, R.N., M.S., to bring the A.C.A. from a small network of local support groups to a major national force in providing education, empowerment and advocacy for people who have lost limbs.
Dr. Jeffries’ hobbies are photography and spending time with Lucy, his Labrador retriever.
