Michael J. Kern, M.D., fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, is joining University Orthopedic Surgeons on Oct. 8. He will be available to see patients in Knoxville at the practice’s UT Medical Center office in Professional Office Building F, located at 1926 Alcoa Hwy., Ste. 210, and at the practice’s West Knoxville office, located at 11440 Parkside Drive, Ste. 110. As a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Kern’s expertise includes an array of the latest surgical techniques and procedures to effectively treat acute and chronic orthopedic injuries and conditions of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow.

Dr. Kern holds an undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and he earned a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He went on to complete an internship in general and orthopedic surgery as well as an orthopedic surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kern later chose to undergo advanced specialty training in orthopedic sports medicine through a fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute, a nationally recognized non-for-profit research and education foundation in Birmingham, Alabama.
