New Fellowship-Trained Sports Medicine Surgeon Joins University Orthopaedic Surgeons

Michael J. Kern, M.D., fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon, is joining University Orthopaedic Surgeons on Oct. 8. He will be available to see patients in Knoxville at the practice’s UT Medical Center office in Professional Office Building F, located at 1926 Alcoa Hwy., Ste. 210, and at the practice’s West Knoxville office, located at 11440 Parkside Drive, Ste. 110. As a fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Kern’s expertise includes an array of the latest surgical techniques and procedures to effectively treat acute and chronic orthopaedic injuries and conditions of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow. 

“Trained at the renowned American Sports Medicine Institute, Dr. Kern joins us with a wealth of knowledge and skill in orthopaedic sports medicine to keep athletes and active individuals of all levels in the game,” says Scott T. Dr. Kern holds an undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and he earned a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He went on to complete an internship in general and orthopaedic surgery as well as an orthopaedic surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kern later chose to undergo advanced specialty training in orthopaedic sports medicine through a fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute, a nationally recognized non-for-profit research and education foundation in Birmingham, Alabama.
