E. Michael Holt, M.D.
Dr. E. Michael Holt is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who joined University Orthopedic Surgeons in 1989 following his orthopedic training at The University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic in Memphis. With over 29 years in orthopedic surgery practice, Dr. Holt is one of the most experienced in the region. He has dedicated his practice to acute and chronic problems of the knee, from traumatic injury to wear and tear across the lifespan. He has treated many athletes of varying ages and abilities, including those participating at the college and professional levels. Dr. Holt has a passion for helping all individuals who lead active lifestyles regardless of age, and he keeps up to date with the latest treatments and techniques.
With a special interest in knee replacements and having performed thousands (over 500 annually), Dr. Holt offers three types: custom, standard, and robotic-assisted. In addition, he performs partial (unincorporated and patellofemoral) knee replacements. Dr. Holt provides experience, the latest techniques, and low complication rates to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients. While performing the majority of surgeries at UT Medical Center, Dr. Holt also operates at Parkwest Medical Center and Tennova Healthcare. Dr. Holt has been listed multiple years as one of Knoxville's top orthopedic surgeons in the "Top Docs" awards.
Dr. Holt holds a faculty position as a clinical professor at The University of Tennessee Medical Center and mentors future physicians and other healthcare providers. He has been active in the community as an assistant Boy Scout leader and coach of youth soccer and basketball teams. He recently completed his first marathon at age 55! Golf is a favorite hobby, and beekeeping is a new passion.
On a personal note, Dr. Holt and Tresa, his wife of 34 years, enjoy outdoor activities, their three Weimaraner dogs, and spending time with their three grown children. Andrew is a current orthopedic surgery resident, Abigail is a family nurse practitioner, and Ben is a recent graduate from ETSU, where he was a scholarship Division 1 soccer player. He currently is pursuing a PHD in biology/ecology at The University of Tennessee.
